Forever Ago Complete Walkthrough: All Chapters

Full Forever Ago complete walkthrough covering every chapter, puzzle, photo spot, and memory from Woolson Falls to Williamina Peak.

Forever Ago is a narrative adventure about Alfred, an older man retracing a lifetime of memories with his wife Audrey — and if you're stuck at a photo prompt or a locked door, this Forever Ago complete walkthrough will get you through every chapter. The game rarely holds your hand: objectives appear as journal tasks, camera prompts are easy to miss, and several sections hide interactive objects behind fences or in side rooms.

Below you'll find a chapter-by-chapter breakdown with exact objectives, locations, and photo opportunities, plus a full collectible-style overview of the journal photos you'll want before the credits roll. If you're looking for the official store page, the Forever Ago Steam listing is the best reference for platform availability.

Forever Ago Walkthrough: Chapter Overview

The game runs roughly 6–8 hours and splits into seven main chapters plus an epilogue. Each chapter pairs a present-day location with a flashback memory, and most puzzles boil down to three verbs: photograph it, interact with it, or talk to it.

A quick tip before you start: the camera is your primary progression tool in Chapters 1 and 7. If a scene feels stuck, pull out the camera and look for a highlighted subject — nine times out of ten, that's the trigger.

Woolson Falls: Opening Chapter Walkthrough

You begin as Audrey inside the bedroom. Learn the controls, then photograph the manual itself to confirm your camera works. From there, the photo checklist is:

  • The teddy bear on the bed
  • The pictures on the wall beside the study table
  • The calendar on the same wall
  • Alfred posing outside the window (this one advances the story)

During the car ride, snap any random shot, then keep talking to Alfred. When he points out the Woolson Falls sign, photograph it quickly — the prompt window is short. After the car stops, crouch near the flowers for a close-up, then look left to catch Alfred's James Dean pose.

The trail section switches you to third-person control as Alfred. Follow Audrey, keep the conversation going, and at the trail's end take the final photo together. Shake the printed photo to develop it, then open your journal and slot it into the album to close the chapter.

Community note: several players report missing the calendar photo on a first pass because it blends into the wall art. If your journal page looks incomplete, go back and sweep the study table wall again.

Carl's Pump 'N' Mart: Supplies and the First Nightmare

This chapter is a shopping list disguised as a story beat. You need three items: cookies, windshield wipers, and a road atlas.

ItemLocation in Store
Windshield wipersFar right wall, end of the aisle
CookiesStraight ahead from wipers, opposite side
Road atlasNear the toilet paper section, under the old framed photo
Red basketImmediately to your left at the entrance

Grab the basket first or you can't carry anything. Talk to Milton at the counter when you're done, and pay for everything.

A cutscene then pulls you into a memory, followed by a nightmare sequence. In the nightmare, walk straight, go through the door, and climb the stairs. It's linear — there's nothing to collect, so just push forward. When you wake, pay Milton with your wallet.

You'll camp for the night afterward. This is your first real album session: open the journal and place every photo you've taken so far. Missed shots can sometimes still be captured the next morning before you drive off, but don't count on it.

Highway Star Diner: Flowers, Jukebox, and the Booth

Three objectives here, and the order matters less than you'd think — but the booth is gated behind a side quest.

Finding Audrey's Flowers

Exit your motel room and head straight until you see the restaurant. Take a right toward your van, slip through the fence beside it, and follow the path to the telescope at the end. The Mariposa Lilies grow right there. Pick a few.

Playing the Jukebox

Inside the diner, head left to find the jukebox. Cycle through the track list and select "Green Green Grass of Home" by Patti Page. This is Audrey's song, and the game won't accept a substitute.

Unlocking the Premium Booth

Sit in the booth by the window and you'll learn it's members-only. Talk to Maddy at the counter. She'll ask you to investigate whatever keeps raiding the dumpsters behind the diner.

Head right out of the diner and through the fence. Investigate the dug hole and the trash area. You'll find a stray dog — photograph it with your camera, then report back to Maddy. She'll grant booth access.

Once seated, the game prompts another photo: snap the scenery outside the window. Then the flashback begins. Interact with the gate sign first, meet Audrey, and peek inside the diner to trigger a cutscene. Follow Audrey afterward, sit with her at the overlook, and confess your feelings when prompted. This is the proposal scene — there's no fail state, so take your time with the dialogue.

Road Breakdown and the Sam Detour

Back in the present, your van dies. Inspect three points in order:

  1. The leakage behind the van
  2. The hood at the front
  3. The interior from the right side

Grab your journal from near the dog inside, then walk straight ahead to the phone booth. A cutscene plays, followed by another dream sequence — walk forward and interact with the phone at the end.

You wake in Sam's house. Read the note on the door, pick a shirt, and interact with anything that highlights inside before heading out to find Sam and your van.

Fixing the Van With Sam

Try analyzing the van yourself first — you'll fail, which is intentional. Then follow Sam and help water her plants. Use the faucet to refill your watering can whenever it runs dry. After the garden, follow her again to collect the gaskets from the shed. A cutscene handles the actual repair; you only need to tighten the final bolts.

Afterward, follow Sam and the dog across the fields. Throw the stick when prompted, sit with Sam at the end, and take a selfie for your journal. Player experience: the selfie is easy to forget because it's framed as a casual moment rather than a mission — but it counts toward your album.

Buccaneers' Retreat: Bolt Cutter and the Island

This is the longest chapter and the one most players get lost in. The resort is abandoned, stuck in 2001, and gated behind several locks.

StepAction
1Check the entrance booth, then follow the path to reception
2Take a day ticket from the ticket booth and enter
3Stay right, pass under the narrow gap
4Enter the captain's galley, climb the stairs into the nightmare
5Exit the dream, use planks to bridge the floor gap
6Pick up the bolt cutter on the far side

With the bolt cutter, break the balcony lock and descend the ladder. Next, cut the lock on the Skull and Coins arcade and pull the lever inside to restore power. Head to the back of the arcade for the Guardian Lord machine — play it, and the objective completes whether or not you beat the high score.

Exit the arcade, stay right, and cut another lock to enter the souvenir shop. Grab the mascot sticker from the shelf beside the parrot. Exit through the door near the parrot and continue to the docks. Cut the harbor lock, take the boat, and photograph mid-ride to trigger the flashback.

In the memory, let Audrey steer first, then steer yourself. Follow her on the island for a cutscene, and when you return to the present, carve the tree to finish the chapter.

Winslow Lighthouse and Williamina Peak

Before the lighthouse, you'll stop at an animal shelter — a scripted beat that ends with the dog staying with you. At camp, make coffee and feed the dog.

Follow Charles along the path, and when he sits down, take photos. Your camera auto-switches targets here, so keep shooting until the sequence ends. Continue along the linear trail, throw sticks for the dog as prompted, and read the sign at the lighthouse entrance.

After the cutscene, aim your camera at the top of the lighthouse and shoot — this triggers the memory. Head inside, climb the stairs, and watch the cutscenes.

The final chapter opens with a driving sequence. Crank your wiper speed against the storm; the crash is scripted. In the following dream, walk straight through. When you wake, follow the dog tracks in the snow, calling out as you go. Even when the tracks vanish, keep heading straight — you'll reunite with the dog regardless.

Climb the stairs to the peak. In the dream sequence, walk forward and exit through the door. Then place the tray beside Audrey and feed her the soup. After the flashback, open the drawer, read Audrey's final note, and the main story concludes.

Epilogue and Journal Completion

The epilogue is a quiet wind-down. Interact with the objects in your house — photos, keepsakes, the answering machine — then head to the kitchen and start making dinner. The game ends when you go play with your dog.

If you're chasing a full album, here's what tends to get missed:

  • The calendar in Woolson Falls
  • The mid-boat photo at the retreat
  • The selfie with Sam
  • Charles's photo sequence at the lighthouse (partial captures still count)

There's no penalty for an incomplete journal, but the album is the emotional payoff of the whole game — worth a second run if you rushed.
